Exterior extension accessories are more than decoration. Wrong selection may lead to issues on center of gravity, load capacity and component interference.

1. Roof Rack
Crossbar style suits light camping with low wind noise and light weight. Platform rack is recommended for long overlanding, rooftop tent and heavy outdoor gear. Pay attention to dynamic roof load rating; dynamic load multiplies under rough off-road vibration. Confirm factory mounting points before installation. Clamping on door frame may deform roof panel. Higher roof load increases wind resistance and gravity center, reduce speed while cornering with loaded gear.
2. Swing-out spare tire carrier
Stock tailgate hinges cannot support oversized AT/MT tires. Heavy spare tire will cause tailgate sag and hinge play after long vibration. Swing-out tire carrier rigidly connects with rear bumper. The spare tire rotates together with tailgate without blocking opening. It is ideal for 33-inch and larger tires. Inspect bolts and weld seams regularly, cracks may occur after heavy off-road impact.
3. Hood modification
Two common types: lightweight aluminum hood and vented competition hood. Vented hood reduces engine bay temperature for low-speed rock crawling. Lightweight hood is enough for general cross-country trips. Match hood latch and gas struts. Check edge clearance to avoid interference with grille and headlights. Minor adjustment on mounting points may be required on some vehicles.
4. A-pillar auxiliary lights
A-pillar lights offer extra illumination for night forest trails, combined with flood and spot beam patterns. Mount brackets must anchor firmly on reinforced base instead of simple sheet metal self-tapping screws. Wiring requires fuse and relay with conduit protection, keep cables away from hot and sharp metal. Use auxiliary lights only in closed off-road zones.
Tips: Combining heavy roof rack, swing tire carrier and reinforced bumpers adds total weight and raises gravity center, which changes braking and roll characteristics. Balance overall vehicle load when stacking accessories.
